What's the point?

Aren't there already enough sites about George Bush and his propensity for not telling the truth?

Well, there are a lot of sites the deal with George Bush's lies, but the only way to counter the relentless stream of lies is with the truth. That's supposed to be the job of a free press, but the press has been so well muzzled that even the most obvious lies are generally allowed to pass. And organizations such as Fox News gladly pass on as gospel anything Mister Bush says.

If the free press won't do its job, then it's up to people who write books and maintain independent websites.

Do I really think that this website will convince any of George Bush's supporters that their leader has been lying to them relentlessly?

Unfortunately, no. Both the Communists in the old Soviet Union and the National Socialists in wartime Germany learned that big lies, told often enough, become the truth.

So the point is to let Mister Bush know, and to let those he has surrounded himself with know, that some of us out here in the hinterland are paying attention – that we know the difference between the truth and a lie.

A word to the wise

Those of us who see through Mister Bush's curtain of lies should keep a few thoughts in mind as we try to convince our fellow citizens that they are worshiping a false idol:

  1. George W. Bush is not evil, certainly not in his own mind. Without a doubt, he believes that what he is doing is right, but he still doesn't trust the American people (or the world) enough to tell them the truth. George W. Bush may be unethical, but he is not evil.
  2. George W. Bush is not stupid. He is intelligent, crafty, and cunning. By allowing people to think of him as a bit of a dimwit, he can get away with even the most outrageous lies. Those who know he's said something incorrect may pass it off as mere ignorance or incompetence. Mister Bush plays the role well, but falling for it could be fatal.
  3. Lying is not something new to Mister Bush. He has been perfecting his skill for decades and he has surrounded himself with people who can attack, without shame or embarrassment, the bravery, honesty, and patriotism of war heroes.

"I'm a Republican and George W. Bush is one of my heroes, but I believe a veil of secrecy has descended around the administration and I think that's unseemly."

Congressman Dan Burton
chairman of the Government Operations Committee

"Principle is okay up to a certain point, but principle doesn't do any good if you lose."

Dick Cheney,
White House Chief of Staff
1976

Shortly before the 2004 election, I sent to my Technology Corner mailing list what I considered to be a well-reasoned explanation of why I could not vote for George Bush. Within minutes, I started receiving "unsubscribe" messages from people who could not have yet read what I had written. This wasn't unexpected. The radio station that carries Technology Corner is Rush Limbaugh's home in Columbus, so the people who listen tend to be those who don't particularly want to think for themselves. If you'd like to read that explanation, it is on this site.

Lies ... lies ... lies

The Bush Administration spins lies faster than we can document them. In writing 1984, George Orwell explained how lies worked. The Soviet Union's Communist Party and Germany's National Socialists had already shown how "the big lie" works. Orwell wrote "Everything faded into mist. The past was erased, the erasure was forgotten, the lie became truth." That seems to be what George Bush and his cronies are depending on.

Spin on, Mister Bush, spin on. Spin faster. Soon you'll just spin yourself into a hole that even Karl Rove can't get you out of.

The goal of this website is to expose the lies so that they will not become the truth.

New (10/16/05): A short movie
George W. Bush, Highlights of the President's Efforts to Restore Dignity and Honor to the White House
That's what the Bush administration promised, but has it delivered? The movie is in Quicktime (mov) format, which many media players can handle. A larger version is available (22MB). Contace me (see bottom of page) if you want a copy.

Ongoing lies and deceptions

New Orleans, the Southeast, and Katrina

  • Trent Lott's new house isn't exactly a lie, but an indication of how out of touch this elitist little presidential twit is when it comes to suffering. Read it.
  • A New Orleans Times-Picayune editorial calls the Bush administration on its many lies. Read it.
  • New Orleans Times-Picayune columnist Lolis Eric Elie points out that there's still too much ass kissing going on, too many photo ops, and not enough effort. Read it.
  • Other New Orleans accounts. Read them.

Miscellaneous Lies (including New Orleans 2005)

Except for the section dealing with lies about the war in Iraq, this will probably be the largest section. If Mister Bush is writing or talking, there's a good chance that he's lying. (Some general Katrina lies are in this section.)

Prehistoric lies

This section will describe lies told by the liar in training. I expect this to be a relatively small area, not because Mister Bush lied any less in his youth, but because it will be difficult to find corroborating evidence.

Early lies

This section will discuss documented lies dealing with Mister Bush's campaign to be governor of Texas and his term as governor.

Presidential lies

Prior to the terrorist attacks in 2001, George W. Bush began to amass a remarkable record as a liar. We'll look at some of his pre-9/11 fabrications here.

The Liar in Chief

Lies surrounding the war in Iraq are among the most amazing deceits perpetrated by any political leader in history. These are the lies that will guarantee Mister Bush a place in the history books.

Odds and Ends

This is a section that contains observations that have occurred to me or that I've encountered elsewhere. While these aren't necessarily lies told by Mister Bush or his associates, they are indicative of this "honest" president's understanding of what is meant by the term.

The Bush Presidential Lie-brary

Books about George Bush's tendency to lie, spin, and deceive are being written faster than we can read them. Here are some that provide the kind of evidence that only the brainwashed could ignore.

Stand Up to the Lies

I've created bumper stickers and other materials that are being sold on Cafe Press (there's a link from the following page). Most of them are shown here and you have my permission to use the design in any way you see fit at no charge.

The Burning Bush

Mister Bush likes the Bible, but he's rather selective in his quoting of the book. He particularly likes Leviticus, but what about the rest of that book?
Read it. (This is an Adobe portable document format file.)

Who ... what ... why ... when?

I feel obliged to point out that I don't hate George W. Bush. When he resigned from office, Richard M. Nixon cautioned against hating others, "Those who hate you don't win unless you hate them, and then you destroy yourself."

I dislike the lies George W. Bush tells. I find the people he surrounds himself with to be despicable sycophants. I am astonished and disappointed that half of the people in the country bought this man's exaggerations, misstatements, and lies. But I don't hate the man.

And I don't want to see another person like him in the White House when his current term ends.

The "scholar's column"

The column at the left will include, as required, an index for that page (at the top) and this index will be followed by somewhat random comments and quotations that I feel are appropriate to this discussion.

Who am I?

Considering the political climate of the United States today, saying who I am could be dangerous. The vice president and his minions consider me to be guilty of treason. I still hope that most reasonable people will understand that opposition to bad government policies (and bad government) is actually an indication of love for one's country. But I could be wrong.

No matter. The moment I registered the domain name, my identity became a part of the public record that went with the registration. I could have hidden behind a false identity, but that would seem more than a little disingenuous. So here's who I am:

William F. Blinn, owner of William Blinn Communications. I live in Worthington, Ohio, a red state. I'm not going to include my address or phone number, even though I know both are easy enough for cranks to find. At the bottom of this page is an e-mail address that will send a message to me.

A democratic society depends on having educated people who are sufficiently interested in what the government is doing that they constantly ask "Why?" This isn't your right as a citizen; it is your duty. Read everything you can about what your government is doing and come to your own conclusion. Don't let the government (or the propaganda arms of the radical right, Rush Limbaugh or Fox News) do your thinking for you. If you're a "ditto-head", you're abrogating your duties as a citizen.
